NYCya

This past month, my sister and I went on a trip to NYC just the two of us and planned/paid for the whole thing ourselves, so adult. Anyways, it was one of the best trips I’ve been on thanks to Pinterest and blogs we researched before hand for the best sees, eats and do’s in NYC. I am going to be sharing my different looks from our time in the big apple and am starting it off with day 1 in Brooklyn! Read on for outfit details and my musts when in Brooklyn/Williamsburg…

Because we were traveling to NY that morning, I had to keep my look casual/comfy yet still chic enough for the fashionable city of NYC. These Nike black, suede high tops were the inspo for this look and they definitely make me feel WAYYY cooler than I actually am. I found these bad boys from DSW’s clearance section for $40, I couldn’t deny that. From there, I just added my favorite boyfriend jeans, white tee & denim panel button up to layer my look and go for the whole denim on denim. If you want to try denim on denim but are skeptical, try keeping your denim button up open like I did here and give it some contrast with a plain tee underneath.

Necessories in NYC: NY baseball hat of course to tame the hair in the crazy wind and my new chestnut Fossil watch that I never take off to make sure we didn’t miss our flight(; I finished my look off with my pink cross body purse from Old Navy that added the perfect amount of girly to my casual look.

Brooklyn/Williamsburg Musts:

  1. Williamsburg Bridge + Brooklyn Bridge: both are super cool and worth the walk! We rented some Citi bikes to get across the Williamsburg bridge and it was so much fun.
  2. Crif Dogs: authentic NY hot dogs in a cute, hole in the wall
  3. East River Ferry: takes you from Williamsburg bridge to Brooklyn Bridge for $4 with amazing views!
  4. Momofuku Milk Bar: This famous bakery was insanely good and there are several locations throughout NYC. What to get: crack pie + cornflake crunch cereal milk ice cream….yes that’s a thing.

Summertime is finally here and it has finally stopped raining everyday here in Texas, so my closet is thankful. Time to bring out the shorts and color because summer! I finally got myself a pair of Birkenstocks thanks to Famous Footwear and I am never taking them off. Read on for outfit details from this summery look of mine…

My birks were the starting point for this look and from there I wanted to keep it casual and cool for the Texas heat. These palm shorts are the perfect summer short because they are colorful and breezy! I added this plain white tee since the shorts were super busy.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Necessories: I wanted to add some layered necklaces to my plain white tee with my new favorite necklace from RiffRaff, this dainty cactus necklace. I have never gotten so many compliments on a piece of jewelry before so thanks RiffRaff. I added a second necklace that tied in well with the color of my shorts. I finished it off with my Fossil wrap watch and new Fossil cross body bag in seafoam. I was iffy about the color choice but it goes with almost everything I wear so no ragrets.

Hope you are enjoying these sunny days as much as I am! Have a fabulous week,

Accents, shopping, mind the gap..OH YES! London, you are my favorite city maybe ever and that is a bold statement. You are like New York City but with a cuter accent. I loved your eclectic mix of food and shopping and did I mention your accents? Read on for more from my trip to London…

London is one of the biggest fashion cities in the world so I was constantly taking mental notes and staring a second too long at outfits I loved. When traveling throughout London, we only had a day and a half to explore the city so dressing comfy was a must. It was also a lot cooler than it looks so layering was my friend. I wore my gingham tank underneath a classic denim button up with black skinnies and my grey/gold nikes. These Nikes got me through the excessive amount of walking we did throughout Europe and they are still dressy enough to go with an everyday look. I brought this khaki jacket from TjMaxx with me just about everywhere we went and it was the perfect neutral color.

As far as necessories, I kept it simple with some rounded, rose gold sunnies and my Kendra white arrowhead necklace.

  3. Broadway show-we saw Wicked and it was such a fun experience in the city!
  4. Wasabi-chain restaurant with the best bento bowls and sushi for cheap!
  5. Borough Market-best market I have ever been to, no lie.

Rome’s streets are rich in history and full of color. When packing for Rome, I brought colorful patterns that I felt best reflected this beautiful city. These floral pants from Loft were the perfect travel pant! They are super comfy and I loved the floral pattern so I had to have them. Since these pants are super busy, I kept it simple up top with this high-neck line black top from TJMaxx. I finished my Rome look off with these white sandals. I scored these from JcPenney’s for $20 and they are much comfier than I thought they would be. They tied in will with the white in my pants and kept it casual for a day of exploring.

For my Paris look, I kept it simple with my favorite, black and white stripes. This midi dress from Target’s whowhatwear line is my new go to. It is super stretchy and comfy and it was the perfect Paris dress. I paired it with my favorite flats, these chestnut mules from Old Navy to add some brown into my look. For necessories, I added this brown floppy hat, fossil wrap watch & nude cross body purse. I always go light on the necessories when traveling to save some space.

jam packed

May 23, 2016

Y’all, anything is possible if you just cram. But really, if I, Julia O’Hearn can survive in a carry on for two weeks abroad in Europe, then I guarantee you can do it too! I decided to share my tips and tricks on how I managed a carry on for 2 weeks abroad to get you ready for your next big trip this summer! Read below to uncover the secrets of packing light for an over-packer…

Tops:

nine shirts: 2 tanks, 6 t-shirts & 1 button up. I highly suggest packing at least one button up(super versatile). I only packed two tanks because it was still pretty cool but you can add more tanks instead of shirts to survive in the heat of summer. It’s all about the color scheme. Clearly if you are packing in a carry on for this long, you will have to repeat items(Lizzie Mcguire outfit repeater whoops). Therefore, you have to only bring clothes that are interchangeable with one another. For my Europe trip, I decided to bring a lot of whites, blues and blacks that make up a perfect capsule wardrobe.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Dresses:

2 dresses & 1 jumpsuit. It’s hard to narrow down your dresses because you have so many you love but trust me, only bring 2 or 3 dresses and add a sweater or button up over them the second time around to change it up. Only bringing these three pieces saved me A LOT of room.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

OMG SHOES:

4 shoes, that’s it. This was the hardest part for me because #shoeperson but this is where you will waste too much space if you don’t choose wisely. Sandals are great because they don’t take up too much space but with all the walking you’ll be doing, I would bring back up. I also brought a pair of flats for my dressier looks and these chestnut mules basically went with everything I brought. I brought two pairs of athletic shoes: necessities. I brought these slip on converse that were much more comfy than my sandals/flats but were still fashionable. Lastly, I had to bring my gold Nikes. I wore these on the airplane to save space but I wore these a lot more than I expected to during my trip because comfy.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Outerwear:

1 jacket, 1 rain jacket, 1 sweater & 1 sweatshirt. Don’t forget a rain jacket, it saved me.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Travel Bags:

1 small makeup bag & 1 small night time bag. You cannot bring your normal size make up bag on a trip like this. Basically everything has to be mini in order to fit. I snagged these two bags from TjMaxx right before my trip for under $20.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Pants:

1 jean, 1 black jean & 1 dressy pant. Because we had washer/dryers at several Airbnb’s we stayed at, we were able to only bring a few pairs of pants. I suggest a light pair of jeans and a dark pair(I chose black) and one dressier pant.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Bags:

1 cross-body purse & 1 clutch. I recommend a neutral cross-body purse for traveling because it is more secure and you don’t have to hold it. I also brought a clutch for dressier dinners.

Well, that’s the secret to packing in a carry-on for two weeks abroad, you are ready to GO! Happy traveling & Happy Monday!

XOXO, LPOC

bell yeah

May 9, 2016

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

Never thought I’d be saying this after the 90’s but ladies…bell bottoms are back. I decided to go all out with this look, adding some flare to my entire outfit! Read on down for outfit tips and why I jumped on the bell bottom band wagon…

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

I get the skepticism. But trust me when I say, once you try a pair on, you will change your mind. I am 5″2 and can use all the lengthening I can get and that is just what these jeans do for me. The number one rule with bell bottom jeans: you HAVE to wear a wedge or heel. Sandals or tennies would throw off the dressy look these jeans bring to an outfit and make you look short, which I know I don’t need. I prefer wearing open toed shoes with my flared jeans to add some length and show off some color with my polish. I paired these jeans with a simple, white blouse from Envy Boutique to dress up my jeans while still keeping it simple.

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

Necessories: Because my blouse and jeans were pretty simple and plain, I wanted to add some fun necessories(necessary accessories) to my look. I added gold accents of course with this rose gold Fossil watch and earrings that I scored from Nordstrom Rack and this stone, tassel necklace from Charming Charlie that matches everything!!

fringe with benefits

April 14, 2016

Processed with VSCO with m3 preset

Tis the season of festivals, warm weather & fringe! I put together a look that will be my go to for any concerts and festivals this upcoming spring and summer. Read on down for more details on my festival look…

Processed with VSCO with m3 preset

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

This new Riffraff top of mine inspired this look. I love the aztec print and stitch details and thought it was the perfect shirt for summer. I paired it with my favorite jeans ever, these ripped boyfriend jeans from Envy in Denton. Use code littlepieceofchic for 15% off! I finished with my new white sandals that I found in JCPenney’s for 20 dollars instead of 40?! & did I mention how comfy they are…

To get this look, you basically need two things: denim of some sort, preferably ripped & a printed top, I prefer an aztec print for festivals!

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Processed with VSCO with t1 preset

The necessories for my festival look include some of my favorite things: fringe and rose gold. These fringe earrings are (insert praise hands emoji)! I scored these at Riffraff in Fayetteville for under $15. If I could, I would buy them in every color they had. I also used my nude bralette as a necessory to add more to my look. I own this bralette in two colors and I am obsessed. They are super comfy and can be found at Urban Outfitters for under $20. I finished my necessories off with my Fossil wrap watch and this slouchy, green cross body bag from Old Navy that I got last spring and couldn’t wait to pull out again for this spring/summer.

These rose gold sunnies are my everything currently. They are a great knock off on the RayBan copper, round sunnies and I got these babies for 7 bucks at H&M!!! AMEN.

Hoppy Easter

March 26, 2016

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Hoppy Easter Eve fashionistas! I wanted to share my Easter look early in case you need some inspo! This year, I’m channeling my inner Waldorf and mixing things up with my two favorite patterns: floral & stripes! Read on for details and tips on how to wear a midi skirt…

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

For my Easter look, I wanted it to be colorful, fun and girly! I am on a midi skirt kick and keep buying them. I have had several people ask me how to style these awkward length skirts so I thought I’d share some tips.

Here is how I go about styling a midi:

1. Wear it high, you want to wear it high enough so that it falls right around your knee. If you are short like me, wearing it high on your waist will give you the length you need.

2. Wear a heel or wedge. Because this skirt isn’t short or long, you need a heel or wedge to balance out the skirt. I chose a wedge that was nude and simple since my skirt was very busy.

3. Tuck a tank or top in. Don’t wear anything too baggy up top since the midi skirt is flowy. I added a striped top to my floral midi to mix up some patterns and dress it down a little.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

As far as my necessories go, I decided to draw more attention to the pink in my skirt by wearing this pink, Kate Spade statement piece I scored from TjMaxx the other week and have been wearing on repeat ever since. I also added more pink with my favorite watch ever. This rose gold, Fossil watch with a blush face makes me feel super girly and chic and I love it for that!

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

As we prepare for Easter tomorrow, remember why we are celebrating. He has risen and we are so loved! I hope you enjoy time with family and friends and are feeling inspired to try something new this year for your Easter look!
