life’s a beach

Because I’m nostalgic about this trip and would do anything to be back in this moment, I decided to share with y’all some pictures from my recent vacation, details of this outfit, and some of my experiences from this trip of a lifetime! These pictures were all taken in Isla Roatan, Honduras and aboard our cruise ship on a day at sea. Our first stop of our seven day cruise was to Honduras. We first did a ‘quick’ photoshoot and then headed to the beach. The water was like nothing I had ever seen before. I was in awe of God’s beauty, I mean clearly, he knew what he was doing here. Read on for more details about the trip and what I wore. —>

When packing for this seven day trip, it took me a long time(ask my sister) to pick out outfits. I knew I wanted to wear a lot of colors, whites, turquoise, and of course hats! So that is how this outfit came about. I found this colorful, patterned maxi skirt at TjMaxx a few weeks before leaving for my trip. I loved the colors and I knew it was a must to wear to the beach. I paired it with a plain white top from Old Navy(super cheap) and simple black sandals. I accessorized with this turquoise stone necklace from Forever 21 which matched perfectly with my maxi skirt. I then added a straw floppy hat to complete my beachy look.

While in Honduras, we spent some time sightseeing in the town before heading to the beach. We were able to see the elementary school(which I loved) and lots of beautiful homes, talk to natives and learn more about their culture, hang out with monkeys(literally), and enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation in the turquoise, crystal clear waters of Honduras. This was our first stop before heading to Beliz and Cozumel. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you about those another time! Thanks for reading my long post about my time in Honduras, hope you had a wonderful spring break full of new memories and experiences you will hold on to forever, I know I will.

don’t sweat the small stuff

March 20, 2015

I finally have time to sit down and blog after a crazy week and half of traveling and catching up on school work. I was in Mexico for a week on a cruise and I definitely got my money’s worth in food. So now I’m home, back to reality and feeling the guilt of indulging in food 24/7. Vacations are nice because you can eat a lot, not go to work or worry about school, or even workout, then you come home and get slapped in the face by reality. So that sucks. Read on for work out(fit)tips and ways I try to keep myself accountable when exercising!

So to get myself motivated, I buy workout gear that makes me feel like I know what I’m doing at the gym. hah. TjMaxx is my go to for workout gear, it is cheap and they have great brands. These pants are my only pair of Lululemon pants and wow they are worth every dollar, thank you Santa. Tennis shoes are my weakness and these are by far my favorite. These are black and white Nike Roshes and they are so comfy and have gotten me through a lot of tough miles. This headband is also from Lululemon and they are super comfy and sweat proof! I have about five headbands from them because they are great quality and fairly cheap for the brand.

To keep myself accountable for going to the gym, I set a schedule. I make sure to do two days of cardio, usually treadmill/stair-stepper, legs twice a week, arms twice a week, and yoga on Wednesdays, which leaves me one day off each week to rest. I noticed that making a schedule makes you more likely to go and not skip like it is so easy to do. Yoga is my Wednesday work out and it is my favorite form of exercise. I go to slow burn class at Lifetime Fitness and it kicks my booty. I love it because Yoga is not only a great work out, but also incredibly beneficial for your health and flexibility. It relieves a lot of stress, helping you not sweat the small stuff while sweating! If you have never been, namas(go)!

anything bows

March 6, 2015

This week, I’m channeling my inner Blair Waldorf. WWBD(what would blair waldorf do). Well she would do anything bows and sophisticated. It’s the weekend and even more importantly, it’s time for spring break, which means I leave for a 7-day cruise to Beliz, Honduras, and Cozumel TOMORROW. Sorry if I’m bragging but I can barely contain my excitement. Anyway, enough about that, read on for outfit details!

When styling this outfit, I was going for a preppy(er) look than my usual. This snow has me thinking of New York which has me thinking of Gossip Girl which has me thinking of Blair Waldorf of course. Her fashion was always over the top and too much but she somehow pulled it off. I love her boldness and she was always one for hats and anything bows. So I styled this outfit centered around the hat. I wore my fur vest(from Target) that has LEATHER trim around the neck, yeah you heard that right. I then kept it more dressy with a teal button up blouse from Old Navy that is a great piece for layering. I toned down the fancy-ness of my outfit with my go to boyfriend jeans. I finished the look with the most comfortable wedges ever, thank you Tom’s!

To do Blair justice, accesorizing is a must! I added this bold statement necklace from The Loft that my soon to be married cousin Ryleigh sweetly bought for me for Christmas! I love the necklace and it goes with everything, okay almost everything. I wore this hat as you already know and then went a little crazy and wore my cross body cheetah purse that I found a few years ago at none other than TjMaxx!

Like I said, I’m headed off tomorrow for 7 days at SEA! I will be free of technology which I am actually looking forward to(so no blog posts from me for a week, how sad). Hope y’all have a wonderful spring break, I know I will!

xoxo, Julia Waldorf

Deer diary, why is it still so cold. My winter wardrobe is happy but I would really like to give my spring wardrobe some spotlight too. Please get on that mother nature.

Sincerely, one cold and bitter gal.

Since it’s still snowing and it’s almost March, vests and sweaters are allowed. One thing I cannot complain about is getting to wear this vest again. It is one of my best TjMaxx finds(I say that everytime but they just get better), it is the perfect pattern and it is furry on the inside to keep you warm! I actually ordered this from TjMaxx online so it might be on sale by now. Now let’s talk about this sweater. This is an interesting find because it is actually a men’s sweater from Target. I was doing my typical target run and walked past this and thought to myself, I bet a girl could wear this too. So I bought it and that’s that. My mom said it was creepy but I liked the edgy look to it. I finished the outfit with skinny jeans and these boots I wear too much.

Since a vest is somewhat of an accessory in itself, I just decided to add a hat. Honestly it’s sad how many hats I have accumulated, but they are my favorite accessory. You can wear them year round and they make for a great bad hair day. So I guess keep wearing the sweaters and vests while you can, pretty soon we will be complaining that it is too hot. Have a fabulous weekend!

snow many layers

February 23, 2015

–

Well look who decided to snow up. Winter, that’s who. Right when I was thinking our relationship was over, he came back and ruined everything. The only thing great about winter weather is snow days and thankfully teachers get to enjoy the day off too! So today on this lovely Monday, I’m spending the day blogging, catching up on homework, and even more importantly, on tv shows. I decided to share this outfit I wore a few days ago that seems pretty practical in weather like today. Right when I thought scarf and boot season was almost gone, the cold made a comeback! So it looks like the forecast is calling for scarfs, boots, and lots of layers. Read on for outfit details.

This flannel. I mean, need I say more. Thank you RiffRaff for the best flannel ever to walk this earth. It’s black, dark red, and blue and oversized! It is also incredibly warm and can be worn with jeans or leggings because of its length. When I’m not sure what to wear, I grab some boyfriend jeans and go from there. I paired this flannel with my go to boyfriend jeans, a tan infinity scarf and tan heeled booties to match. I then added this green quilted jacket that I got last year on sale at Old Navy. I love this color green and the fact that this jacket acts as a winter coat and rain jacket in one. I highly recommend grabbing yourself a jacket like this!

To finish the look, I wore the warmest, comfiest scarf and this dark red tote. When it’s cold out, accessorizing includes layers, layers, and more layers. Hope everyone enjoys their “ice” day! Stay warm & check back later this week for a new post comin’ your way.

i found you, miss new booty

Bootie, bootie, bootie, rocking everywhere! It’s the freakin weekend and it couldn’t have come soon enough. School is kickin my butt right now and the only thing that gets me through the week is knowing that there’s a Friday at the end of it. I don’t know what it is, but I always feel the need to wear my best outfit of the week on Fridays, it is the best day of the week so I guess that’s my thought process. So today, I’m here to talk about this neutral colored outfit that was inspired by my favorite boots.

–

The key to this look is two colors: white & brown. One of my favorite color combinations is this because of the contrast. I love wearing white in the winter because I am a rebel like that..but anyway, I love neutral colors, especially these two. This quilted sweater is another Old Navy find and I’ve worn the heck out of it! Simple sweaters with statement jewelry is one of my go to’s in the winter. I am a layering lunatic so of course I threw on a jacket. This field jacket is from H&M and you would not believe how warm it is! Not to mention, it has elbow patches and the interior is plaid, what more does a jacket need? I then completed the look with a pair of jean jeggings and my chestnut wedged booties.

To add some finishing touches, I accessorized. The main accessory was this statement necklace with tortoise detailing. It coordinated perfectly with the brown theme I was going for and I love this necklace paired with a simple sweater as the backdrop. I added my favorite gold fossil watch that I’m sad to say, has been misplaced…can’t get over it. I finished the look with my go to tote. I thought it would be good to add some color to my colorless outfit with a bag. This bag is the bag of all bags and the color will never go out of style(thank you Charming Charlie’s).

In my personal opinion, Valentine’s day is the most fun holiday to dress for. I’m not usually a pink gal but I will make an exception on this lovely holiday(literally). My favorite color to wear this month is any form of red. Whether it be bright red or berry like this dress. I have been saving this berry sleeved dress for quite some time to wear on Valentine’s day. I love that the color is a mix of pink and red and I especially love the sleeves. The pleated bell sleeves are my favorite part. One day when shopping at Old Navy(of course) I came across these heart patterned tights and immediately pictured them with this dress. Every girl should own a fun pair of tights! They add sass and style to any outfit and in this case, can be festive. I then added my dressy black booties and this black floppy hat. I wanted to tie in the black from the tights and what better way than with a hat?

don’t sweat(er) it.

“I wear my grandma’s clothes, I look f a s h i o n a b l e.” Really, this is my grandma’s sweater she so kindly passed down to me last time I visited her in Arkansas because she is the most giving person I know(love ya Nanny)! Anyway, I can’t stop wearing it. I love it for it’s colors, pattern, and mostly for it’s warm & coziness(and it’s vintage!). So today I’m here to share with you how I styled something old and somethings new—>

It’s Friday! We can all take a deep breath and not sweat(er) the small stuff. I for one am so incredibly overwhelmed in school at the moment, so the weekend was calling my name! Now on to more important things. For this outfit, the sweater was my starting point. From there, I just kept adding neutral colors! I added a grey felt hat to keep the wintery + cozy look alive. I layered a plain black sweater underneath to keep warm and simple. I love layering sweaters because if you are like me, you get hot flashes throughout the day, no matter how cold it may be and need to strip down! I decided to wear my usual holy boyfriend jeans. I did however roll them up so I could show off my new shoes! I got these black wedged Toms booties for Christmas and I can’t thank Santa enough! They are like walking on a cloud & they give you height, what more could a short girl ask for?

–

I finished the look with some accessorizing. Like I said, I wore the hat because it matched so well and gave the outfit spunk, which all outfits need. I also wore some black Kendra Scott earrings to  contrast against the grey hat! & Last but not least, I wore one of my favorite bags, it’s totes amazing! The bag is brown so it matches everything and it is great if you have a lot of junk to carry around.

Be on the lookout next week for a Valentine’s Day post! Happy FriYAY, xoxo- Julia

footballin’

January 30, 2015

–

Well, it’s almost time to say goodbye to athletic men in tight pants & yummy football food. But before we do, let’s go out in style. I love football season and yes, I am indeed a Cowboy’s fan and always will be. Unfortunately, we are just letting the other teams get a chance at winning the Super Bowl because we are gracious like that. But really, I don’t care about either team in the Super Bowl this year, I’m just ready for some Katy Perry and commercials, am I right? and p.s. Dez still caught the ball. Anyway, I’m here today to fill you in on what you should wear to your Super Bowl watch parties and tailgates(I of course chose to rep my boys).

To dress for the Super Bowl, you’ll need two things. boyish + charm. Don’t be the girl wearing a dress to watch a football game,  just no. I decided to wear a baseball cap to keep it casual and sporty. It happened to be the Cowboy’s colors so it worked out well. It’s all about finding a balance between girly and sporty for events like this. I styled this grey houndstooth wool vest from Old Navy with a thin long-sleeved chestnut and white striped top. It’s the perfect amount of warmth without being too hot in this random weather lately. I then stayed casual with some jean jeggings. I finished the look with these chestnut and grey wedged lace up booties. These shoes are one of my favorites I have bought this season. They are fun because it’s like a mix between a wedge, a sneaker, and a boot. They gave the outfit just enough girly.

–

Happy Friday! I survived my first week of student teaching and I couldn’t be more ready for a weekend off! Hope everyone had a great week and enjoys their weekend too! Today I’m talking all things quilted, maroon, and creme. With this weird winter we are having in Texas, one day it’s in the 70’s and the next day, the 40’s, so layering is our friend, and vests are my bff, like seriously, I wear them more than jackets. I especially love quilted vests and jackets because they are practical. They are water resistant, comfortable, and don’t make you sweat with all your layers on underneath. So basically, they quilt you into wearing them.

Apparently, the color of the year is marsala, which is this maroon ish color of my pants and in my flannel. It is one of my favorite colors and goes great with a lot of other colors, especially whites and cremes. To get this look, I started with the creme quilted vest from Old Navy, layered this maroon and navy flannel underneath, wore these marsala colored jeggings from Old Navy, and finished with tan ankle booties. To accessorize, I wore my go to watch, this gold and tan wrapped Fossil watch that I got for much cheaper at TjMaxx! I wore some simple studded earrings to finish it off. Hope y’all have a fabulous weekend! Check back next week for a new post! xoxo- Julia
