A pattern that will never go out of style: floral. Florals have changed over the years but the overall idea is the same. I love florals anytime of the year. I love fall florals, wintery florals, and especially, summer florals. I am not one to wear super bright colors too often but this dress is an exception. I love the blues in it and of course, the pattern. Thank you Target!

Maxi dresses make your life soooo easy! Because this dress is so busy, I wanted to add some neutral colors to tone it down. I wore my go to, brown laced up wedged sandals that I scored from Old Navy for 8 dollars last year.

To complete my look, I finished with some necessories(necessary accessories, my word that I am trying to make happen, like fetch). I love these rounded tortoise sunnies I found at Old Navy this past spring. I also wore some neon yellow round studded earrings that are also from Old Navy, sorry I am not sorry. They are like the Kate Spade studs but like 90% cheaper.

Add some floral to your wardrobe, you can wear it for years to come!

wave goodbye

August 12, 2015

It has been almost two weeks since vacationing in Seaside, Florida and I am already having withdrawals. I cannot believe that summer is over in less than a week. Where has it gone?! Back to reality starting this Monday as I begin my final semester of college and last semester of student teaching, wow I am old. Before that, I wanted to reminisce about my time in Seaside and wave goodbye to summer! I thought I’d share with y’all some pictures from my trip with an outfit that won’t break the budget but will look like it did! I love packing for trips to the beach because you get to wear stuff you don’t really get to in Texas!

To style this beachy look, I started with this pink floral skirt. The detailing in the skirt includes sea shells, sea horses, and flowers, how perfect?! I snatched this skirt from the clearance section in Old Navy for 7 dollars(7 DOLLARS!). Because the skirt’s pattern was busy, I kept it simple with a plain white tee that has gotten me through a lot of outfit dilemmas(if you don’t have one, you need one!). To keep my beachy look, I finished with the only thing you need, a floppy hat! I got this tan and white hat from Target right before my trip for 15 bucks and I love love love it! I tied in the brown hat with these brown sandals from Old Navy from last summer.

Seaside and Rosemary beach were the two cutest beach towns you ever did see(or at least I ever did see). The white sand and clear water made for a beautiful week. Food trucks filled the streets and the houses were like something out of a Nicholas Sparks movie. Everyone rode bikes everywhere and there were ice cream shops on every corner(what is better than that?!).

that’s a wrap!

Good morning fashionistas!! Hope you are having a fabulous week and summer. Today I am sharing with you this outfit with one of my favorite graphic tees I own(thank you Target.) If you are headed to a concert anytime soon, this post is for you! I actually just bought tickets for my sister and I to go to ACL in Austin this October and we are beyond excited! It’s always hard for me to decide what to wear to a big show so I am here to save the trouble! Read on!

When I think of concert attire, I think of graphic tees. I love the edge they bring to outfits. I used to only wear dresses and boots to concerts because I only attended country concerts. However, now that my music taste has expanded, so have my outfits. Because of Texas weather, shorts are basically a must. I love denim cutoffs so I paired those with my graphic tank and my favorite floral wrap. I love the length because it adds some variety to my look. I finished the look with some simple black sandals to keep it casual and comfortable. Please don’t be that girl wearing wedges or heels to a concert, just don’t. Wear something you are comfortable in! I tend to always wear something with writing on it and then add some pattern of some sort to keep a fun look.

Finally, the necessories. Because the wrap is so busy, I kept it simple. I added my favorite gold fossil watch and my Black/gold club master RayBans. & that is how I put together an outfit for a concert! I thought while we were on the subject of music I would share with you some of my favorite songs I’ve been listening to all summer long:

  1. Half Moon by Blind Pilot
  2. Bright by Echosmith
  3. Rivers and Roads by The Head and the Heart
  4. Murder in the City by The Avett Brothers
  5. Latch by Sam Smith
  6. Boom Clap by Lennon & Maisy
  7. The One that Got Away(Acoustic) by Katy Perry
  8. Anna Sun(Live from Spotify NYC) by Walk the Moon
  9. Home by Johhnyswim
  10. Hometown Glory by Adele

Give them a listen, your ears will love you! Alright fashionistas, you are ready for your next concert or festival, that’s a wrap!

xoxo, Julia

When choosing an outfit, atleast for me, it can be a little stressful to decide what to wear and what items to put together which results in hurricane closet. Well today I’m here to give you some dress relief, hah. When in doubt, dress it out! I seriously love how simple it is to put on a dress, add some jewelry and go. & what is better than a simple white dress with a denim jacket?! Read below for outfit details—>

I came across this white shift dress at Old Navy a few months ago and couldn’t say no. I love the floral detailing and the style, especially for us teachers! I love denim and white so I threw on this denim jacket to add another layer to my look. I read an article once talking about how to fully complete an outfit. It talked about how you should never just have one layer on. If you are wearing a dress, add a hat, jacket, or fun piece of jewelry so that the dress doesn’t stand on it’s own. It also talked about how an outfit looks at its best when there are three key pieces. Here, I have my dress(1), jean jacket(2), and my gold bib necklace(3). The necklace can count as my third piece because of its size! Just thought I’d share that with y’all because I had never heard of it before.

Onto the necessories! I wore my favorite gold bib necklace that is actually a knock off Bauble Bar necklace from Purple peridot for only 24 dollars compared to the usual 100. I also wore these espadrilles which I consider to be a necessory because of the gold detailing. I finished with my favorite, red lipstick. These pieces along with the denim jacket completed the simple summer look I was going for. Try adding a third piece to your outfit today!

rhythm & blues

Well hello there! Can someone please tell me where the summer went because I am not ready to accept it is the end of July…not happy. That’s my rant. I am however looking forward to this Saturday when my family and I are headed to Seaside, FL for the first time for a week of paradise, AMEN. Read below for outfit details because I’m sure that’s why you came here…

This outfit all started with these shorts. I got these blue printed shorts from Old Navy for ten bucks!! They have so many shorts like these in different colors and patterns so hit them up! I wanted to keep the rest of my look simple with whites and browns so that is what I did. I am a sucker for a plain white tee and it adds simplicity to an outfit. I dressed this look up with some brown open toe wedges that I found at TjMaxx last spring. They are super comfy and the perfect color brown.

For the final addition to this look, I added a chestnut brown floppy hat. I really didn’t wear any other accessories besides the hat with this look since the shoes and hat added enough. I love accesorizing with hats because you can survive the Texas heat and humidity and no one will know your hair is suffering! Hope y’all enjoyed this post and have a wonderful week! I am off to Florida this Saturday for family vacation to Destin so peace out!!

invest in stocks

Tis the season of birkenstocks. They have slowly made their way back into style and it’s official, they are the shoe to have right now. If you are anything like me, it hurts to spend over 100 dollars on a sandal if you can find some similar ones for over half the price. So that is what I did. I ventured over to Target and found these white “birkenstocks” for 25 dollars and I seriously am convinced they are better than the real thing. I have tried on real birkenstocks and these and I swear by mine. They are so much more comfy and affordable. Target also carries these in a chestnut brown if you want the more classic look.

This is probably the simplest outfit I have shared since I started blogging. But because of that, I love it for its simplicity, especially because it’s all B&W. This look is perfect for a busy day of errands or a day at the beach. I am a sucker for stripes and always will be. I found this dress at a boutique in Fort Worth this past spring and it is incredibly comfy. This striped dress seems to be popular because I have seen different variations of it at Target, Old Navy, and Riffraff. I love how much you can do with it, I have worn it several times with a kimono or jacket over it to add some layers.

I kept this look simple with the white “birkenstocks” and finished with one piece of jewelry, this gold aztec necklace from World Market! The final touch to this outfit was red lipstick. It added some color to my neutral look and looked great against the black and white dress. Always finish with some fun lipstick, your lips will love you for it!

have a fabulous weekend fashionistas,

down, set, hike

Take a hike

Take a hike by littlepieceofchic featuring

I just returned home from a quick weekend trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas where I spent some much needed time with family! We went canoeing on the Buffalo National River, cliff jumped(still can’t believe I did it), hiked to a beautiful waterfall, and had a picnic! We were very adventurous and I loved every second of it! I am here today to tell you what you need to hike in style!
  1. Rain jacket, I know it is hot but you never know what the weather will do!
  2. Athletic shorts(I am a sucker for all things Nike but any kind will do, make sure they are comfy and dry fit!
  3. Baseball hat, I wore one this weekend hiking and canoeing and it was perfect because it protected my face and kept my hair out of the way.
  4. Backpack. I do not own a Kavu, but I wish I did. They are the perfect size and style. I brought my north face backpack that has stuck by my side the past 4 years with no wear or tear at all.
  5. Shades. I highly recommend wearing sunglasses when going on a hike, protect your beautiful eyes while looking stylish!
  6. Sandals, preferably chacos. I know they are all the rage for college girls and they seem like a fad, but seriously they are the most practical shoe for an adventure, especially if it involves water! If you are a size 8 or less, you can squeeze into a kids size chaco for half the price!
  7. Snacks!! Cliff bars are the perfect mountain snack, especially this flavor.

Alright fashionistas, you are ready for your next adventure!

Here are a few pictures from my trip because they were too beautiful not to share!

If you were a fruit, you would be a FINEapple. Hope y’all are having a great week and awesome summer. I am afraid to admit that it is zooming by but it is..why?! I am not ready for it to be over but need to remember to enjoy everyday at a time. Well enough #deeptalks, I’m here to talk about clothes with you, so let’s get back to that. Read below for details from this outfit!

This outfit was inspired by the recent craze for all things pineapples. I found these pink pineapple shorts at Francescas boutiques this past spring and I am obsessed. They are so crazy, fun, and comfy. Because these shorts are a little wild, I kept it simple with a plain white tee. I added the classic denim jacket to complete the look. I love my denim jacket from Old Navy and if you don’t have one yet, getcha self one. I finished the outfit with my knock off white birkenstocks from Target. They are THE best and incredibly comfy. You would think they were real birkenstocks but they are wayyyy cheaper.

For necessories, I added two things. My gold fossil watch and gold Ray Ban aviators. The pineapple shorts were so busy that I wanted to keep it light on the necessories. And that is all for this outfit, add some fruit to your closet, you won’t be disappointed. It’s okay to be fruity sometimes!

Happy 4th ladies & gents! Today I’m here to tell you how to go out with a bang this 4th of July and what you need to fireWORK it! Read below for my tips and outfit details—>

Before I give you tips, I want to share with you about this outfit! Disclaimer, this entire outfit, head to toe is from Old Navy. Yes, even the shoes. The only pieces that are not are my jewelry. I am in love with this button up top and have always been a sucker for seersucker stripes. I am also a huge fan of white jeans and Old Navy has them for super cheap and they are comfy! I finished the look with these red slip on vintage looking flats. I wanted to tie in some red and what better way than with some killer shoes? I know it is probably too hot to wear this outfit but you can make some simple changes and be ready to go! You can still rock some white jeans but throw on a striped tank or festive top with some sandals and you’ll be ready to go. Or, you can keep the button up and add some denim cutoffs to keep your look casual and comfortable. Add some white converse, and you are ready for some fireworks!

My 4th of July Musts:

  1. Old Navy 2015 shirts are acceptable, they are the ugly kind of cute shirt that can be tucked into denim cutoffs with some converse for the all American girl look.
  2. Wear stars. This year, I am wearing a denim dress with faded white stars on it from Old Navy. I have come to love stars this summer and Old Navy has a lot of shirts and dresses with the star pattern on it.
  3. Wear stripes, if you aren’t wearing stars, because hello America.
  4. Red lipstick, what better way to show your patriotism than on your lips?
  5. White converse, these converse were literally made for a day like today. They have red and blue stripes on the bottom and are super comfy for the long day!
  6. Denim cutoffs: Classic American look that will keep you cool and stylish on this hot day.
  7. If you aren’t wearing cutoffs or a dress, a must this year is overalls! They are in style, comfy, and casual! I highly recommend grabbing you a pair before they go out of style again!
  8. If I have any recommendations, my last would be to just go to Old Navy. They seriously have the best selection of 4th of July gear that is cute and affordable.

Now go have a rockin’ fourth and stop reading my blog!

xoxo, Julia

how to look fly

How does one look fly? Wear birds of course! I have more where that came from. Toucan play at that game? Alright enough bird puns, I’m sure that’s not why you are here. Let’s talk about this outfit and THIS dress. The dresses of all dresses. I love a good maxi dress and this one is the cutest. I have never gotten more compliments than when I wear this dress! It is so fun and colorful and a perfect summer night out dress. Read below for outfit details and where this dress is from(I’m sure you can guess..)

Drumroll please…..this dress is from none other than OLD NAVY! I know, can you believe it?!  If toucan, I can! hah okay I am really done. I got this dress for 12 dollars when it was on sale and I have gotten so many wears out of it already. I even wore it to student teaching one day and I have never had so many teachers compliment my outfit. I wanted to keep the color in the dress and leave the shoes a neutral color. These brown lace up wedges are also from Old Navy and I actually got them last year for 8 dollars in the sale section(check it out).

Onto the necessories. Sometimes, when you are wearing something as crazy and bright as this dress, the only necessories you need are some fun sunnies! These sunglasses are also from Old Navy, so yes, the entire outfit is, no ragrets. They were only 7 dollars and I love the tortoise, vintage look they have. Well that is all for today fashionistas, check back later this week for a fourth of July look you won’t wanna miss!
