When in doubt, where black. Or atleast that is my motto. This outfit is a perfect transition into fall while still dressing for the heat. That is how we fall in Texas. Or atleast until mid October when the cool weather finally decides to make a visit. So until then, I’ll make do! Read below for outfit details and styling tips!

As fall approaches, I find myself wearing only one color, black. I actually wear black all year round but as the weather gets cooler, I dress darker. This outfit is dressy but super comfy and simple. This skirt was the key to my look. I love the colors in it: tan, creme, and black of course. Because the skirt is busy, I kept it simple with a plain black tee that I put off my shoulders to stay cool and dress it up.

To finish my look, I added some simple necessories. This pearl and gold pendant necklace is Lucky Brand but I found it at TjMaxx a few years ago. I love the contrast against my black top and how it ties in well with  the colors in my skirt. Another key component to this look was this bright cherry lipstick. I love wearing red lipstick when I’m wearing all black because it adds some color and pops! That is all for this look, check back next week for a new look coming’ your way!

23 is golden.

September 30, 2015

–

This past Wednesday I turned 23 years old?! Not sure how this year has gone this fast but I remember 22 like it was yesterday, well it kind of was. What I am most sad about is the fact that I am now irrelevant to T.Swift songs, both fifteen and 22 are done so can she write one for us 20 somethings who are too old to relate, thanks. 23 is special however because it’s my golden birthday, 23 on the 23rd! I love gold and how bright it is and I hope this year is full of just that, bright things ahead!

My mom put together the cutest birthday donut cake ever!! I donut know what I would do without her, hah. It was as delicious as it looked! My birthday was super fun! I spent half of it spending time with my little kiddos since I am a student teacher and all. After teaching, I headed home and got ready to head to Fort Worth with my family and Patrick to meet up with my best friend, Taylor. This is the 2nd annual bday trip to Fort Worth and I kinda love it. We went to Chuy’s because I am a die hard mexican food fan, especially the frozen lime stuff. On our way, we stopped by Kendra Scott so I could pick out something for 1/2 off(best birthday perk ever)!! I was showered with love from friends and family and that is all I could ask for!

My birthday suit consisted of: leather pants, a suede tank, and some peep toed Mary Jane wedges! I had decided on this outfit probably a month prior and did not care whether it was going to be 100 degrees still, I was going to wear it. Well it was hot and I did sweat but I’d say it was worth it because I got to wear my favorite things for fall: leather, black, suede, and snakeskin!! Suede is making a huge comeback this fall. Whether it is a suede skirt, shirt, or bag, it is a must. I love the combination of leather and suede, not the coolest combination but as far as fashion goes, it is perfect.

Since it was my golden birthday, I wanted to accessorize with all things gold. I added this gold/black chain necklace from Charming Charlies to tie in with the black leather jeans. I decided to go heavy on the bracelets and wore my gold watch and gold bracelets. I finished the look with this snakeskin nude clutch. This clutch added some pattern to my look and tied in perfectly with the suede tank.

Things I want to do this year to make it GOLDEN:

grow in faith, start my career, travel to Europe, go skiing, eat/live healthier, grow as a blogger, go to yoga once a week, find time for the little things, pray more, save money(shopping problem), argue less, love more, see new places, meet new people, and most of all, just find time to breathe & be thankful for this beautiful, wonderful life I have been blessed with.

dress code

Ready for a dress that will get you through any season…well here it is!! This dress is the perfect staple for year round. It is cream and denim pinstriped and the comfiest thing ever…Read below for how I styled it!

–

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

–

To keep my look neutral, I wore these chesnut open toe wedges. I wore wedges with this dress because the dress is longer and I’m short so I needed to add some height. If you want to wear this dress in fall/winter, add an army green jacket and some heeled booties. This is how I styled it for the warm fall months in Texas where it is STILL 90 degrees and up everyday…ugh. We must be patient but I don’t know how much longer my fall clothes can wait.

–

Because this dress is perfect on its own, I only added two necessories, these pearl and gold Kendra Scott earrings and my go to brown/gold Ray Ban aviators. The earrings match the cream in my dress and dress up my look even more!

Hope you are having a fabulous Saturday fashionistas,

xoxo, Julia

solid choice

September 12, 2015

–

It’s Saturday, September 12th and I’m wearing white pants. Labor day does not define us ladies. We can continue to wear white as long as we do it the right way! I am here today to talk all about this outfit and how to wear white pants even in the fall! Read on….

To get this look,  I went for all solid pieces, meaning plain and simple. I also went to Old Navy for every piece of this outfit, whoops. I got this denim peplum top from Old Navy in two colors because I loved it that much. I styled it with my white denim capris to contrast the denim well and finished with these gold/tan espadrilles that I can’t get enough of. If you want to wear white after labor day, you can!! Just make sure you aren’t dressing for summer but change up the colors to make it look more like fall. I always add a lot of brown to my outfits when fall hits and denim is a year round option.

As far as necessories go, I went all out! I wore my favorite lucky brand pearl pendant necklace that I scored from TjMaxx. I added my go to gold fossil watch and finished with one of my favorite totes of all time and some round tortoise sunnies(in love). This striped tote is from the clearance section at Target for 8 bucks! I love what it added to my solid look and a little stripes never hurt nobody.

shift happens

Snakeskin is a pattern that if you had asked me about it a few years ago, I would have told you never to wear it because I disliked it that much. However, over this past year, I have grown to love snakeskin on certain occasions. These shoes being one occasion. I actually have these shoes in two colors because I found them in the clearance section of Target for 12 dollars each! I love these nude shoes and how the toe is pointed(sass level reached). Read below for how I styled these snakeskin heels!

I wanted to wear something simple with these shoes since snakeskin is a very busy pattern. I chose this cobalt blue shift dress from TjMaxx. I love simple dresses like this one that can be easily dressed up like so for a wedding or night out! I have also worn this dress with more casual pieces like a kimono and sandals to dress it down.

Onto the necessories, I wore this nude statement necklace from Old Navy that tied in perfectly with my nude shoes. Because the shoes make such a statement, I left it at that and just used the necklace as my one piece of jewelry. This look is perfect for your next big event!

orange ya glad

September 3, 2015

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

–

Orange ya glad its fall y’all? Well almost! Even though it doesn’t feel like it, I am going to get a head start on all things fall. I have already started drinking pumpkin coffee and dressing like it is 30 degrees cooler than it actually is. A good way to dress for this in between season is to wear pants and a tank top. Still stay cool while dressing for the current season.

–

These pants are so fun and comfy!  I got them from Old Navy of course but you can find patterned pants like this from places like Target or TjMaxx as well. They are practical and can easily be dressed up and down. I decided to pair these pants with a plain orange tank top to add more color and stay cool in this heat. I finished this look with some chesnut lace up wedges to tame all of the colors going on in my outfit. For necessories, I wore my favorite Kendra Scott necklace, the skylie pearl necklace that goes with literally everything and is simple & dainty which I love. That is how I got this summer to fall look, your turn!

my main britches

It’s almost fall so bring out those white jeans before it is too late! I love white jeans because they are comfy and dressy enough to complete a look. My only problem with them are keeping them clean!  White pants are my go to for summer/spring/and even fall! It’s supposedly almost fall in Texas but its still above 90 degrees, so summer it is.

To complete this look, I started with a blank slate, literally, these white pants are a perfect starting point for any outfit. I added a cool, blue tank that I got from Old Navy for only 8 dollars!! I finished with some brown wedges to keep it neutral and dress it up. I finished my look with some necessories. I wore my pearl white Kendra Scott earrings to tie in with my white pants and wore my typical gold fossil watch to add some gold to my look and know what time it is..hah.

Guess what, you survived a Monday!! Bring it on tuesday!

to the max

This heat is awful and its not going anywhere fast. One way I try and stay cool is by wearing a dress. Especially a comfy one like this! This dress can be worn all year long  by styling it in different ways. Here is how I styled it for the summer heat!

–

To complete this look, I added hints of gold and turquoise to go well against the black dress. I have always loved turquoise and black because of the high contrast and this knock off Kendra Scott necklace was perfect. These gold birkenstocks are the best because they are comfy and dressy enough to wear with something like this. I also tied in gold with my favorite necessory, this gold fossil watch. I finished with this tan/black floppy hat which is perfect to keep out of the sun and for bad hair days. This look is super simple and I bet you have the pieces at home to wear something just like it! Stay cool, and yay for surviving the first week of school! It’s Saturday, enjoy it!!

I am gonna pretend I am holding up a 1 in this picture, so go with it. Cannot believe I have been blogging for a year now! It’s crazy how fast a year goes by but how much happens in such a short amount of time. In this year I’ve started blogging, I have been a busy gal. I have been on mission trips, in weddings, started student teaching, traveled a lot, spent too much money at Old Navy, watched an excessive amount of netflix, grown in my faith, and of course, learned the ins and outs of blogging. I thought I’d share with you my favorites from this year….

When I signed up for my blog last year, I didn’t realize how much work it really was going to be. I also didn’t expect to love it so much. I love getting to take a break from life and just sit and write. I love sharing my fashion finds and tips with you and hearing what you think. I have also loved being apart of a community of bloggers within my area and learning from one another.

The biggest challenge of this year for me as a blogger would be comparing myself. I follow a lot, I mean a lot of bloggers on social media and constantly catch myself comparing myself to them and putting myself down. It is so easy to get discouraged with something like this because there are always people out there who are doing it better. I really have not gained a large following or earned much money doing this so far but that is not really why I did it in the first place. I want to share my passion for style with you and hope people out there care to read about it!

As I begin this next year as a blogger, I hope to take what I have learned this year and use it to make myself even better. I need to remember why I am doing this and that is to simply share with you what I love, fashion! I know I still have so much to learn as a blogger and hope to meet new people this year who share this love for blogging and fashion like me! Cheers to Little Piece of Chic for surviving one year as a blog and here’s to many more years! Hope you follow along as I continue this journey as a fashion blogger and can’t wait for what this year will bring!

leave me alone

August 21, 2015

Summer is over. Leave me alone, I don’t wanna talk about it.. But just because summer is over doesn’t mean I have to stop dressing like it. I am going to pretend like it’s still summer and share this post with you from this outfit I wore while in Seaside, Florida last month.

I found this romper from H&M a few months back and couldn’t resist. I have seen this palm leaf pattern everywhere and joined the bandwagon. I am always one for fun patterns like pineapples, leaves, donuts, and whatever the next weird fad is. I love this romper because it is super versatile and makes quite the statement. I wore it with these simple creme gladiator sandals from Old Navy for a more casual look but you can also dress it up with some heels or chestnut wedges for a night out.

–

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

To finish, I added some necessories! I wore this gold bib necklace that is actually my sister’s, shhh. I liked the aztec vibe it brought to my look and how big of a statement it also makes. Sometimes it is fun to try something new and wear something out of your comfort zone, you might just like it! I added this army green cross body purse from Old Navy that tied in perfectly with my romper. I finished my look with these white vintage sunnies that are also from the Navy(if you’ve seen the commercial, you’ll get it). I love these sunglasses because they make me feel like I am in the 50’s and add a vintage touch to any look.

Try to wear something daring this week, don’t be afraid of what others might say, it only matters how you feel in it!

xoxo, Julia
