miles to magnolia

January 14, 2017

If you haven’t been to Magnolia yet, put that on your list of to do’s this 2017. It is such a fun day trip to check out the town of Waco and do all things fixer upper. The store is full of everything you’ve always wanted and they even have food trucks and fun, family activities outdoors. I highly suggest going on a nice, spring day! I wanted to share some pictures from my day at Magnolia and tips on shopping affordably when you are there…

The day we went to Magnolia was an unusually warm winter day and so I went with some layering just in case it got to be too warm. I just bought this striped peplum top from Old Navy and I think I want it in every color they have. It is under $25 and super flattering! It is the perfect transition piece into spring time which I can’t believe I am even saying because it is still January. I kept my look mostly black with black sculpt jeans from Old Navy, my striped top & my go-to leather jacket I scored from TjMaxx. I love a good leather jacket but can’t afford the real stuff. This leather jacket was under $30 but still looks expensive. I finished my look off with my favorite tan booties I found at Famous Footwear this past fall. I love a good, simple outfit like this and it always looks put together without trying too hard.

While at Magnolia, channel 10 was asking some shoppers what they were looking forward to in 2017 and what their memories were of 2016. It was a cool experience and really challenged me to truly think about what I want out of this new year. I challenge you to ask yourself the same question!

When shopping at Magnolia, it is easy to want EVERYTHING. I suggest picking 1 or 2 favorites and buying those. You can always find similar items at Home Goods or flea markets. My family and I went to Magnolia when there was a huge sale going on, 75% off all holiday decor. I highly suggest going next year right after Christmas to get this great deal again!

For necessories with this look, I added some key pieces to dress my look up a bit. I wore this statement necklace from Gap and my maroon tote that I wear literally everyday from Old Navy! I finished off with my new go-to watch, my rose gold apple watch with my new rose gold band I got off amazon for 15 bucks! Can you tell I like rose gold?

Have you been to Magnolia? If so, what is your favorite find or memory? Comment below, I’d love to hear!

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great LONG weekend, stay tuned for exciting collaborations coming up for LPOC,

XOXO

Wishing I was strolling through Central Park right about now. Who else feels like summer just flew by? I can’t believe it is almost August already?! I wanted to share this look with y’all from my time in NYC wearing this two-piece set from none other than Old Navy. Read on for details…

For our second day in the big apple, we headed to Central Park in the morning for a bagel and coffee before going to the live showing of Jimmy Fallon later that afternoon. We somehow ended up in front row at his show and it was one of the coolest parts of our trip! Because we were doing a lot of walking I had to find a balance between comfy and stylish. I decided to wear this navy gingham two-piece set and layer a blush blazer on top for the cooler morning. I love the combo of navy & blush and it was the perfect summer look while strolling through NY.

Two piece sets are a must this season! I love this set because of the colors and gingham. Gingham just reminds me of summertime and I love it for that. This is a more casual way to style a two piece set. They can easily be dressed up with some fun wedges for a night out. For my necessories, I wore my blush cross body purse that somehow matched perfectly with my blazer. I also wore my rose gold sunnies to tie in more pink to my look because why not. I finished off my look with two items from Rocksbox that were both navy/gold and tied it all together.

This past month, my sister and I went on a trip to NYC just the two of us and planned/paid for the whole thing ourselves, so adult. Anyways, it was one of the best trips I’ve been on thanks to Pinterest and blogs we researched before hand for the best sees, eats and do’s in NYC. I am going to be sharing my different looks from our time in the big apple and am starting it off with day 1 in Brooklyn! Read on for outfit details and my musts when in Brooklyn/Williamsburg…

Because we were traveling to NY that morning, I had to keep my look casual/comfy yet still chic enough for the fashionable city of NYC. These Nike black, suede high tops were the inspo for this look and they definitely make me feel WAYYY cooler than I actually am. I found these bad boys from DSW’s clearance section for $40, I couldn’t deny that. From there, I just added my favorite boyfriend jeans, white tee & denim panel button up to layer my look and go for the whole denim on denim. If you want to try denim on denim but are skeptical, try keeping your denim button up open like I did here and give it some contrast with a plain tee underneath.

Necessories in NYC: NY baseball hat of course to tame the hair in the crazy wind and my new chestnut Fossil watch that I never take off to make sure we didn’t miss our flight(; I finished my look off with my pink cross body purse from Old Navy that added the perfect amount of girly to my casual look.

Brooklyn/Williamsburg Musts:

  1. Williamsburg Bridge + Brooklyn Bridge: both are super cool and worth the walk! We rented some Citi bikes to get across the Williamsburg bridge and it was so much fun.
  2. Crif Dogs: authentic NY hot dogs in a cute, hole in the wall
  3. East River Ferry: takes you from Williamsburg bridge to Brooklyn Bridge for $4 with amazing views!
  4. Momofuku Milk Bar: This famous bakery was insanely good and there are several locations throughout NYC. What to get: crack pie + cornflake crunch cereal milk ice cream….yes that’s a thing.

London is one of the biggest fashion cities in the world so I was constantly taking mental notes and staring a second too long at outfits I loved. When traveling throughout London, we only had a day and a half to explore the city so dressing comfy was a must. It was also a lot cooler than it looks so layering was my friend. I wore my gingham tank underneath a classic denim button up with black skinnies and my grey/gold nikes. These Nikes got me through the excessive amount of walking we did throughout Europe and they are still dressy enough to go with an everyday look. I brought this khaki jacket from TjMaxx with me just about everywhere we went and it was the perfect neutral color.

As far as necessories, I kept it simple with some rounded, rose gold sunnies and my Kendra white arrowhead necklace.

Rome’s streets are rich in history and full of color. When packing for Rome, I brought colorful patterns that I felt best reflected this beautiful city. These floral pants from Loft were the perfect travel pant! They are super comfy and I loved the floral pattern so I had to have them. Since these pants are super busy, I kept it simple up top with this high-neck line black top from TJMaxx. I finished my Rome look off with these white sandals. I scored these from JcPenney’s for $20 and they are much comfier than I thought they would be. They tied in will with the white in my pants and kept it casual for a day of exploring.

For my Paris look, I kept it simple with my favorite, black and white stripes. This midi dress from Target’s whowhatwear line is my new go to. It is super stretchy and comfy and it was the perfect Paris dress. I paired it with my favorite flats, these chestnut mules from Old Navy to add some brown into my look. For necessories, I added this brown floppy hat, fossil wrap watch & nude cross body purse. I always go light on the necessories when traveling to save some space.

jam packed

May 23, 2016

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Y’all, anything is possible if you just cram. But really, if I, Julia O’Hearn can survive in a carry on for two weeks abroad in Europe, then I guarantee you can do it too! I decided to share my tips and tricks on how I managed a carry on for 2 weeks abroad to get you ready for your next big trip this summer! Read below to uncover the secrets of packing light for an over-packer…

Tops:

nine shirts: 2 tanks, 6 t-shirts & 1 button up. I highly suggest packing at least one button up(super versatile). I only packed two tanks because it was still pretty cool but you can add more tanks instead of shirts to survive in the heat of summer. It’s all about the color scheme. Clearly if you are packing in a carry on for this long, you will have to repeat items(Lizzie Mcguire outfit repeater whoops). Therefore, you have to only bring clothes that are interchangeable with one another. For my Europe trip, I decided to bring a lot of whites, blues and blacks that make up a perfect capsule wardrobe.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Dresses:

2 dresses & 1 jumpsuit. It’s hard to narrow down your dresses because you have so many you love but trust me, only bring 2 or 3 dresses and add a sweater or button up over them the second time around to change it up. Only bringing these three pieces saved me A LOT of room.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

OMG SHOES:

4 shoes, that’s it. This was the hardest part for me because #shoeperson but this is where you will waste too much space if you don’t choose wisely. Sandals are great because they don’t take up too much space but with all the walking you’ll be doing, I would bring back up. I also brought a pair of flats for my dressier looks and these chestnut mules basically went with everything I brought. I brought two pairs of athletic shoes: necessities. I brought these slip on converse that were much more comfy than my sandals/flats but were still fashionable. Lastly, I had to bring my gold Nikes. I wore these on the airplane to save space but I wore these a lot more than I expected to during my trip because comfy.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Outerwear:

1 jacket, 1 rain jacket, 1 sweater & 1 sweatshirt. Don’t forget a rain jacket, it saved me.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Travel Bags:

1 small makeup bag & 1 small night time bag. You cannot bring your normal size make up bag on a trip like this. Basically everything has to be mini in order to fit. I snagged these two bags from TjMaxx right before my trip for under $20.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Pants:

1 jean, 1 black jean & 1 dressy pant. Because we had washer/dryers at several Airbnb’s we stayed at, we were able to only bring a few pairs of pants. I suggest a light pair of jeans and a dark pair(I chose black) and one dressier pant.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Bags:

1 cross-body purse & 1 clutch. I recommend a neutral cross-body purse for traveling because it is more secure and you don’t have to hold it. I also brought a clutch for dressier dinners.

Well, that’s the secret to packing in a carry-on for two weeks abroad, you are ready to GO! Happy traveling & Happy Monday!

XOXO, LPOC

Cheers to a long weekend! Are you headed anywhere fun? I am headed to Austin, TX this Saturday for weekend two of ACL with my sister and our friend! I cannot wait to eat my way through Austin and see so many bands I love live. When I travel, I like to keep it simple. I typically wear pants because I get cold easily! I like to wear tshirts and comfy pants like these! Read on for how I dress for the road/sky:

When I came across this graphic tee at Old Navy, I fell in love. I love the simplicity of it and the font. I also love that it says jetset making it the perfect travel shirt. I am a sucker for anything graphic tee and this one is the perfect color and it’s super comfy. I completed this look with these black linen flared pants that are also from Old Navy. I may or may not have them in three colors because they are that great. I finished it with these gold knock of birkenstocks that are the perfect road trip shoe to throw on.

As far as necessories, I wore my go to road trip accessories. These gold/brown Ray Bans never leave my side on a road trip. This striped tote is the perfect bag on the go because you can fit all your travel necessities in it. I completed my look with this gold/tortoise fossil watch. Enjoy your long weekend and happy traveling!

wave goodbye

It has been almost two weeks since vacationing in Seaside, Florida and I am already having withdrawals. I cannot believe that summer is over in less than a week. Where has it gone?! Back to reality starting this Monday as I begin my final semester of college and last semester of student teaching, wow I am old. Before that, I wanted to reminisce about my time in Seaside and wave goodbye to summer! I thought I’d share with y’all some pictures from my trip with an outfit that won’t break the budget but will look like it did! I love packing for trips to the beach because you get to wear stuff you don’t really get to in Texas!

To style this beachy look, I started with this pink floral skirt. The detailing in the skirt includes sea shells, sea horses, and flowers, how perfect?! I snatched this skirt from the clearance section in Old Navy for 7 dollars(7 DOLLARS!). Because the skirt’s pattern was busy, I kept it simple with a plain white tee that has gotten me through a lot of outfit dilemmas(if you don’t have one, you need one!). To keep my beachy look, I finished with the only thing you need, a floppy hat! I got this tan and white hat from Target right before my trip for 15 bucks and I love love love it! I tied in the brown hat with these brown sandals from Old Navy from last summer.

Seaside and Rosemary beach were the two cutest beach towns you ever did see(or at least I ever did see). The white sand and clear water made for a beautiful week. Food trucks filled the streets and the houses were like something out of a Nicholas Sparks movie. Everyone rode bikes everywhere and there were ice cream shops on every corner(what is better than that?!).

Take a hike

Take a hike by littlepieceofchic featuring

I just returned home from a quick weekend trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas where I spent some much needed time with family! We went canoeing on the Buffalo National River, cliff jumped(still can’t believe I did it), hiked to a beautiful waterfall, and had a picnic! We were very adventurous and I loved every second of it! I am here today to tell you what you need to hike in style!
  1. Rain jacket, I know it is hot but you never know what the weather will do!
  2. Athletic shorts(I am a sucker for all things Nike but any kind will do, make sure they are comfy and dry fit!
  3. Baseball hat, I wore one this weekend hiking and canoeing and it was perfect because it protected my face and kept my hair out of the way.
  4. Backpack. I do not own a Kavu, but I wish I did. They are the perfect size and style. I brought my north face backpack that has stuck by my side the past 4 years with no wear or tear at all.
  5. Shades. I highly recommend wearing sunglasses when going on a hike, protect your beautiful eyes while looking stylish!
  6. Sandals, preferably chacos. I know they are all the rage for college girls and they seem like a fad, but seriously they are the most practical shoe for an adventure, especially if it involves water! If you are a size 8 or less, you can squeeze into a kids size chaco for half the price!
  7. Snacks!! Cliff bars are the perfect mountain snack, especially this flavor.

Alright fashionistas, you are ready for your next adventure!

Here are a few pictures from my trip because they were too beautiful not to share!
